The celebration of the centenary of Nässjö

Welcome to our party! From 30 August until 7 September we’re celebrating the centenary of Nässjö – all week long.

The art gallery Nässjö Konsthall will open its jubilee exhibition, there will be a preview in the Kuben exhibition space for Pinnen’s group of artists, the exhibition titled Nässjö – back to the future will open at the railway station and we are conducting a major collaborative project with the culture and arts organisation Skådebanan, who will come to Nässjö to carry out Skulpturrevolt (literally: a sculpture revolution), which is a project aimed at finding identity in art and architecture in public spaces. And don’t miss the seminar about contemporary art with Linda Fagerström on the Sunday!

Each evening on 2–5 September Nässjö’s dance societies and associations will invite you to dance in a variety of modern and old-fashioned dance styles, in the dance metropolis, the Pigalle culture centre.

The biggest highlight in the celebrations: our centenary party. On this day we will celebrate everything from a new, exciting version of our more than 100-year-old market in the square, to Nässjö’s clubs, societies and sporting achievements. We will present a newly (and locally) produced musical theatre performance by Mohlavyr, and concerts by string quartets and pop bands. Local culinary creations will be on offer in Nässjö food market, and a sculpture unveiling and the variety performance are also not to be missed. In other words, it will be a fun-packed party! Be there: 10:00–17:00 in the area between the railway station and Lake Ingsbergssjön.

One of Sweden’s biggest railway events this year?! One thing is for sure, it will be truly spectacular – just look at what it includes: trains on show from three centuries. Come and marvel at the large steam crane, snorting steam locomotives, sparky electric locomotives and thundering diesel locomotives. Sweden’s largest steam locomotive, the legendary F1200, will visit us, and which locomotive is actually the smallest one? How about going for a ride on one of the historic trains, swinging a track-layer’s hammer or driving one of the locomotives? These and many more attractions will be on offer directly next to the railway station and bus terminal Nässjö resecentrum. Excellent work by the railway museum Nässjö järnvägsmuseum!

Sarah Dawn Finer and Martin Stenmarck will sing in the Stinsen Arena at 19:00 on 6 September. Make a note in your diary – it will be an amazing concert! The Gittan Glans Band will accompany. A big band, the choir Mixemble and great soloists will also take the stage. Tickets are selling like hot cakes, so make sure that you will be one of those who get the chance to experience Nässjö’s centenary concert. Tickets are available from Turistbyrån (the tourist information office) or our website.
